As of 2011, only 4.1% of U.S. companies had an actual policy regarding Social Media.

2. Human Resources Training
82.7% of human resources practitioners have received no training on how to utilize social media to benefit their HR strategy.
The harmful nature of utilizing social media poorly can be significant and long lasting. Information posted online is permanent. Thus, hiring managers must use caution when looking at Facebook profiles, as the content may not be relevant or accurate. What you post on Facebook matters to HR Practitioners
A recent study of randomly sampled profiles showed that 53% of the profiles have pictures of alcohol being used. 20% of the profiles have comments regarding sexual activities. 25% had semi-nude/provocative pictures and 50% of the profiles have profanity. 77% of executive recruiters use search engines to research potential candidates. 35% of these recruiters have rejected candidates because of what they found. 4–Types of Power
Social Media Builds 1 of 4 types of Power: structural, ownership, expert and prestige.
Structural power refers to a person’s position in a company and its ability to influence based on title. Ownership power referred to the type of power shareholders have with company management. Expert power comes from a person’s contact(s) and relationships who deem a person an “expert.” Prestige power is similar to a “Halo effect”, in that it is merely power through association of a person’s network. In other words, if a person has powerful friends, he/she is then seen as more powerful as well. Prestige Power is most affected by social media.
5. Beyond Marketing
Only 15% of the American companies utilize social media beyond the marketing department
Why it’s a problem: Any department could use a Wiki-platform to help collaborate on projects, but currently this is not the norm. Furthermore, the vast majority of individuals updating company Facebook statuses or Tweeting, were A) not full time employees and B) did not see the maintenance of online conversations as part of their official job description.
How you can fix it: Create an action plan to integrate every department with social media software, programs. By the way, don’t limit your thinking of social media to just Facebook and Twitter. It’s much deeper than that (think Wiki’s, Texting, Google Docs, etc). Spearheading any of these projects will make you shine as an employee.
